Now Germany and the whole of Europe are eagerly awaiting the 56th Eurovision Song Contest. On May 14, Düsseldorf is staging the finals of Europe’s spectacular music competition. The capital of North Rhine-Westphalia is looking forward to a total of three shows, contest participants from 43 countries and up to 35,000 spectators at the Düsseldorf Arena, which has been transformed from a football stadium into a gigantic music stage. Around 120 million TV viewers will also be watching the finals in Germany which, following 1957 and 1983, is hosting the song contest for the third time.

So, it’s fingers crossed for Lena, the German winner of the 2010 contest, who is now returning to the great European stage with her song “Taken by a Stranger”. 19-year-old Lena Meyer-Landrut is again entering the competition as Germany’s candidate and aoms to repeat last year’s triumph. Flashback: the Hanover school student, who was just about to graduate, cast her spell over Europe on May 29, 2010 in Oslo. Her performance of “Satellite” earned her the winning points against singers and bands from 24 other countries. The song, coupled with her natural charm brought the Eurovision title home to Germany for the first time in 28 years. The last win was in 1982, when Nicole sang her way to the top with “Ein bisschen Frieden”

The music fairy tale saw her rise from being in a casting show to winning the Eurovision Song Contest. And as Germany’s new “Miss Miracle”, Lena conquered the international music charts with her song “Satellite” and her debut album “My Cassette Player”. Her second album “Good News”, which appeared in February 2011, includes the song “Taken by a Stranger” with which she will be defending her Eurovision title. And if she succeeds, her double win would be an all-time first in the history of the Eurovision Song Contest.
